Keia Mcgrady
Keia Mcgrady is a proud Githabul, Migunberri woman who grew up in Ipswich Queensland. After studying 3 years at the Aboriginal Centre of Performing Arts Majoring in Dance, she then continued her studies in Israel for 5 months in the Kibbutz Dance Journey Program (Israel). Through this program Keia created and facilitated her own work, while learning and exploring from national and international choreographers. In 2019 she was accepted into the Sydney Dance Company Pre Professional year. Throughout her time in PPY keia had the opportunity to work with Linda Gamble and Omer Backley-Astrachan. Since graduating from PPY, Keia has been working with Thomas Kelly, Kural Projects in the development of ‘Silence’, performing in Taree Sansbury’s MI:WI season at QPAC (Brisbane), as well as being a part of Mel O’callaghan exhibition ‘Centre of the Centre’ at UQ Art Museum (Brisbane). Keia has now relocated to Nipaluna where she has been working with big hart facilitating movement workshops in the lead up to ‘when water falls’ production. She has Performed and choreographed the black cockatoo section in Mapli, for the opening ceremony for 10 days on the island. Keia has been apart of creative developments and performances with Tasdance for shows such a ’Illuminate’ ‘Trolls’ and their new schools program called ‘reframe’. Currently Keia is facilitating and supporting workshops throughout Nipaluna with the drill Dance Nexus program, as well as facilitating music workshops throughout high schools with Big harts school programs. Keia has a passion in guiding the next generation through the arts and holding space for them to explore their passions.
