Annual Educational Performance Project: Reconcile

Reconcile commenced with special workshops conducted statewide by contemporary dance artist Bernadette Walong; with ancestry from New Guinea, Torres Strait, Malay and the Philippines.

Bernadette is one of Australia’s most highly sought-after dancer/choreographers and was co-choreographer for the work 'Ochres' (Bangarra Dance Theatre). Bernadette, working with Tasmanian Aboriginal dancer Nikki Smith and Tasdance’s Education Officer Emma Porteus, created a unique opportunity for workshop participants (dance students Year 10+) who were invited to audition for placement in the performance company - 16 were successful.

Reconcile toured the state from June 15-19 featuring 10 talented young dancers (auditioned from schools statewide) who in collaboration with Bernadette Walong, and Nikki Smith conceived and developed the production's theme of reconciliation.
